School Age Lesson Highlights - March 2021

Here are some highlights from our current lesson plans.

(Thank you to my fabulous models and teachers Miss Emma and Miss Jules!)

“Spiderman” Pullovers

Gymnast “walk up the wall like Spiderman to do a pullover mount onto the bars.   We love this progression to build upper body strength and to get comfortable going upside down!

On the Tumble Track we focused on our body shape jumps going BACKWARDS!  Then at the end gymnasts did “mummy hug” drops.  This is how we reinforce safety falls with our arms pulled in.   The reality is that gymnasts fall (and yes, I know this from experience 😝) and we have to make sure we can do it safely.

Miss Jules is demonstrating flamingo🦩 walks on the balance beam over the cones!

The big hit of this lesson is the big green slide!  While this is mostly just for fun.  Slide + balloon = FUN!  It also reinforces our “Birdie perch” position.  We perch “like a bird” on the low bar before sliding down the slide.  This will progress to a squat on and jump from the low bar to the high bar.  We are using this progression to develop this body shape muscle memory.

I would love to hear what the kids are saying about this lesson, I know the slide has been a favorite, but have you heard anything else? Comment below or shoot me a text or email!
