💗 First-Time Meet Families: What to Know
If this is your family’s first gymnastics meet, welcome! It’s normal to feel a mix of excitement and nerves — for both gymnasts and parents.
Here are a few things that may help:
There is a lot of waiting. Meets move at a steady pace, and downtime between events is normal. This is all part of the experience.
Coaches handle the gymnastics. From warm-ups to rotations, coaches will guide the gymnasts every step of the way. This helps keep routines consistent and stress low.
Parents cheer — calmly and proudly. Positive encouragement means so much. Trust that your gymnast knows what to do.
Bathroom breaks require footwear. Gymnasts must wear slides or flip flops anytime they step off the competition floor.
Every meet is a learning opportunity. Not every routine will be perfect — and that’s okay. Progress in gymnastics is built through experience.
Most importantly, remind your gymnast that they belong out there. Confidence grows one meet at a time.
