💗 First-Time Meet Families: What to Know

If this is your family’s first gymnastics meet, welcome! It’s normal to feel a mix of excitement and nerves — for both gymnasts and parents.

Here are a few things that may help:

  • There is a lot of waiting. Meets move at a steady pace, and downtime between events is normal. This is all part of the experience.

  • Coaches handle the gymnastics. From warm-ups to rotations, coaches will guide the gymnasts every step of the way. This helps keep routines consistent and stress low.

  • Parents cheer — calmly and proudly. Positive encouragement means so much. Trust that your gymnast knows what to do.

  • Bathroom breaks require footwear. Gymnasts must wear slides or flip flops anytime they step off the competition floor.

  • Every meet is a learning opportunity. Not every routine will be perfect — and that’s okay. Progress in gymnastics is built through experience.

Most importantly, remind your gymnast that they belong out there. Confidence grows one meet at a time.
